Naturally the soils on the archeological site of Pompeii are volcanic with a sandy texture. The exposure is mainly directly South at an altitude of 50 metres a.s.l. The vines are trained with a 'Vigna a Palo', according to the ancient Roman training method. The grapes are harvested by hand at the end of October. After a long maceration on the skins, the grapes are fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then refined in French oak barriques for 12 months with a further 5 years in bottle.
Villa dei Misteri is a wine made from grapes of vineyards inside the Domus of Pompeii, where vines flourished more than 2000 years ago. The first consistent harvest was in the 2001 produced only in 1,721 bottles, sold by auction and allocated among worldwide wine lovers. Revenue from sales of the wines is used to help the restoration of the wine cellar located in the Foro Boario vineyard.
