The Tenuta Argentiera estate is situated on the coast of Tuscany between Livorno and Grosseto, about 100km south-west of Florence, on the southernmost border of the small but prestigious Bolgheri DOC zone.
Tenuta Argentiera is part of the former Tenuta di Donoratico estate which was once owned by the Serristori, an influential Florentine family who were given permanent use of this land by the Medici family in 1512. Today the estate is owned by Stanislaus Turnauer and brothers Corrado and Marcello Fratini.
Within the Bolgheri DOC zone, the Tenuta Argentiera estate is the highest in altitude (150-200 metres) and has the closest proximity to the sea (2km). The soil composition in the vineyards is made up of clay and limestone at lower altitudes, and of clay and calcareous stones in the hilly, higher altitudes.
The quality of the Tenuta Argentiera wines is recognised not only in Italy but throughout the world. Several of the wines won Gold and Silver at the UK’s Sommelier Wine Awards and Decanter World Wine Awards respectively this year and the US wine critics regularly award the Monovarietals 90+ points. www.argentiera.eu
