The Cantina Tollo Co-operative was founded in 1960. It has 960 members and 3,500 hectares of vineyards. Although predominantly specialising in indigenous grape varieties, Tollo have recently planted Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Merlot and Cabernet. The co-operative has developed into the impressive entity it is today because from the outset the founding members dedicated themselves to quality. Over the last decades, Tollo have worked tirelessly and invested substantially to improve the quality of the grapes and subsequently the wines they produce. Tollo now produces over 12 million bottles of wine and exports throughout the globe. Success, however, is not only measured by quantity and Cantina Tollo has received consistent national and international recognition for quality, notably the Gran Vinitaly of 1990 and most recently being awarded the "Best Producer in Europe" award at Mundus Vini 2010.
