Cantina Sociale di Trento
Italy - Trentino
Web site: http://www.cantinasocialetrento.it/

In 1956 11 grape growers founded the Cantina Sociale di Trento with
the explicit goal of making typically regional wines, and improving their
economic standing. This beautiful region traversed by the Dolomites is
one of Italy's richest agricultural areas.
A new eco-sustainable winery was completed on the outskirts of
Trento in 2009. The layout of the winery was designed to use gravity to
allow a natural flow of grapes from north to south during the vinification
process. This is testament to a commitment to use less electricity and
lower the carbon footprint.
400 member growers now each farm approximately 1.5 hectares of
vineyard, with several plots planted over 2,000 meters above sea
level. The vineyards are all within the DOC Trentino area and 60%
are planted with white grape varieties, with an average vine age of
20 years.
The 1339 range of wines, takes its heritage from the date King John of
Bohemia presented an eagle to the city of Trento, which subsequently
became the symbol of the city.
The inspiration for Cantina Sociale di Trento's premium range
"Heredia" is derived from Latin word Heridium, meaning to bequeath
land through the generations.
