The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto is an expressive, exuberant and stunning wine that opens to a dark ruby colour and rich consistency. The bouquet is never-ending with immediate intensity that is followed closely by finely-tuned aromas of black cherry, spice, grilled herb, clove, tobacco, wet earth and white truffle. A gorgeous display of elegant mineral tones rises from the bouquet with time. Later, those aromas turn to cola, liquorice and tar.

Vinification:

The crown in the Casanova di Neri range produced only in the best years from the very best grapes. In total, the production of a single vintage of Cerretalto takes a minimum of 6 years. The Sangiovese (Brunello) grapes are hand picked from the famous single vineyard âCerretaltoâ in October. On arrival at the winery, the grapes undergo rigorous selection on the sorting table with every imperfect grape discarded. Fermentation vats are filled by gravity. Fermentation takes place without the use of yeast additives and maceration in open conical vats at controlled temperatures for 3 to 4 weeks. The wine is aged in oak barrels for around 31 months and a further 30 months in bottle.
