Ruby red in colour, it reveals an array of red fruits and spices on the nose, with a marked note of black pepper. The palate is rich in intense black fruit, tannins are soft yet structured, supported by a good level of acidity and well-integrated alcohol. Intense and savoury, a wine of powerful elegance.

Vinification:
AD 1212 is a special edition, dedicated to the first written records of winemaking at Decugnano. Grapes are carefully selected and harvested by hand between August 25th and September 30th according to variety, with a yield of 6,000kg per hectare. On arrival at the winery grapes are de-stemmed and placed in stainless steel tanks for 12-15 days at 24°C. Maceration lasts 7-8 days. 1/3 of the wine is aged in new French oak barrels for 12 months, the rest is kept in stainless steel. After careful blending, the wine is kept in bottle for further 6 months before market release.

Grape Varieties:  Cabernet Sauvignon | Montepulciano | Syrah

Classification: IGT | ABV: 15%

  • I bought this from Eurowines after searching on line, as we had enjoyed the wine at an Italian Restaurant in Chelsea. Quite a bit different from what you might expect from an Italian wine from this area due to the strong Syrah influence. I am also a fan of Southern Rhone wines so if you are as well, give this one a go. Quite pricey, but worth it for an occasion.
